28 parks in Pickaway Co.

3 board members

Purpose is to promote passive outdoor recreation; partner with other local organizations

Also 24 trails

County park District only has 3 parks and 2 trails (Canal Park, Towpath Trail, Pickaway Trail, Logan Elm Park, Roundtown Trail)

You can see eagle's nest from Towpath Trail

16 mile rail trail; 2 miles cleared/maintained

1.5 miles in Roundtown Trail, hope to finish this summer

Need 20% match to get money from ODOT

Want to connect Roundtown Trail to Mary Virginia Crites Park

Hoped for:

  •  canoe access on Big Darby
  • Clear more of Pickaway Trail West
  • Path out to Martha Hitler Park (Pickaway Trail East)

  • Logan Elm Trail

Park and Trail Levy in November 2017

Presently, the only income is from gas and access easements

Levy would produce $700K/year; 1/2 Mill for 10 years; add $17/$100,000 valuation

Share revenue with other entities to improve their parks

Use to leverage grants from other sources

  • Don McIlroy--new business wants to know about "quality of life" which includes parks
  • Ryan Scribner also on committee and need for parks as part of economic development
  • Still working on YMCA to Crites Park trail
  • Last project leveraged 5x in matching money--helps to have available quickly
  • When ODOT is involved, meets their specs which includes emergency vehicle access
