  • Obesity is currently calculated by the height/weight/waist circumference because the ease of use. Getting a patient in a pool for measurements is not practical .
  • Obesity Prevalence in the US: 66% vs 37% worldwide; in children – US 29%; 14% worldwide
  • Causes of Obesity: dietary patterns, sedentary environment, economic and social factors, biological factors, lifestyle factors
  • Six Health Risks of being overweight: diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, fatty liver disease, cancer
  • Four pillars for combating obesity: nutrition therapy, physical activity, behavioral modification, medical interventions
  • Physical activity for adults with obesity: 150-300 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity PLUS resistance training 2-3 times a week
  • Physical activity for children with obesity: 60 minutes daily of moderate to vigorous physical activity
  • Discussion of current obesity medication options available
  • Adena Weight Mgmt treats patients ages 12 and up
