Scholarship Drawing: Dave Horning was the winner of $32. The jackpot is $1,168 and it continues!

Program: Jan Shannon – Miryante Community Centre, Uganda

  • 2009 the Miryante Orphanage was founded by Laura Corcoran from Chillicothe (sister of Marie Corcoran Wilbanks from Circleville Sunrise)
  • Over 100 foster care children currently
  • 48% of Ugandan’s are age 15 and less
  • Circleville Sunrise partners with Mubende Metro Rotary Club-District 9213, Circleville Rotary, Chillicothe First Capital club, Zanesville Rotary Clubs, Root Cause Uganda and Shark Tank winner of $5,000 from our District 6690
  • Multiple Rotary Area’s of Focus – economic development, child health, disease prevention and treatment
  • With the first district grant and contributions from both Circleville Rotary clubs 2 years ago, a pit latrine was constructed
  • Last year’s project was a fence for safety and a playground
  • Now starting to build a community center
  • Since January 13th – bulldozer’s starting to build access road to the facility
  • Feb. 7th, leveling ground and bricks were hand delivered and hand unloaded. Footer is going up now after being hand dug. One cement factory in Mubende and it was off line, so there was a delay
  • Shark tank and donations collected totaled $20,500 for outside of building and half of the inside
  • Need another $19,500 for inside work.
  • What’s next? – Currently trying to raise funds – latest $500 came in from New Zealand. Using contacts from around the world.
  • What’s next? – Solar Panels and a water tank – Circleville Sunrise is applying for another district grant. ($5,000 project)
  • Many individual opportunities for sponsorships of children – $50 per month provides all the school supplies, uniforms, food and care that a child needs in Uganda. (miryanteorphanage.org)
  • There are some Rotary Clubs that sponsor a child
  • Animal purchase fund – so when children graduate, they receive an animal (a sign of prosperity)
  • If you are interested in traveling to Uganda, please reach out to Jan Shannon or Marie Wilbanks from Circleville Sunrise – there are two visits being planned

  • Please check out the different activities at the District Conference – April 28/29. Rotary6690.org has a link to sign up. Friday afternoon is at Columbus State from noon-4 with focus on club activity for next fiscal year. Friday night is a reception on top of Veteran’s Memorial and Saturday will be back at Vet’s for the whole day. See Marie if you have problems registering. Fee increase starts April 14th, so sign up now!
  • Club 125 push – it is an annual giving campaign for our District. Our website, circlevillerotary.org has a link or deliver a check to Drexel.
  • Euchre tournament – Thank you Bob Sneed for donating cards
  • Charlie Hedges reported Foundation giving for the end of third quarter – 53 current members are Paul Harris Fellows. $384,212 is our clubs all time giving to the foundation. This year $6,000 was foundation goal, currently at $9,540!! Add Polio Plus $2,240 and we have donated $11,980!!!
  • Gary Montgomery receives his first Paul Harris Fellow Award!
