  • Women’s Products March Madness collection with the winner being announced at the District Conference! Paula and Michelle will shop for you. 2,100 items to date, which surpasses our third place win last year – but Paula is shooting for 3,000 products! She wants Warren to pick-up the trophy at District Conference!

  • Housing production remains lower than Central Ohio peer markets
  • Columbus is largest community east of the Mississippi without access to mass transit – we travel to Cincinnati to pick up Amtrak. Talks are happening to connect with Cincinnati and Cleveland and Pittsburg and Fort Wayne
  • Working on new trails for hiking and biking

  • Mobility Center is being created by COTA near Rickenbacker with hope of opening spring of next year. It will have childcare on site, food pantry, training facility partner with Columbus State
  • LINKUS project – with Central Ohio projected to grow 1 million people of the next 25 years, how can COTA improve transit?
    • Increase services by 45 percent
    • Support bike, walk infrastructure improvements
    • Create 5 rapid transit lines
    • $250 million in roadway/sidewalk improvements
  • COTA seeking permanent 1% Franklin sales tax and bonds for funding and grant opportunities

Program: Terry Klinker, Colonel of US Army Corps of Engineers, Professor of OSU Business Analytics and former Thompson employee

  • Talking about US Army Engineers would go to different South American countries to build schools, parks, medical support, water, etc. and it is also a training exercise for the unit
  • Building partnerships with countries that have drug trafficking
  • Army, Navy, National Guard, Marines, Reservists – two week rotations
  • Poverty level was high and they were able to bring hope
  • Honduras – brought dentists, doctors and veterinarians (vaccinating the animals which people eventually consume)
  • This program started in 1987, stopped by COVID and hope to be starting again

Executive Board highlights:

1. Rotary District 6690 conference is April 28-29. There are cost breakdowns for single and half-day attendance. Rotarians are urged to participate

2. No new member applications.

3. Warren provided highlights from the statewide conference for incoming presidents

4. D. Crawford noted that new members to the club are quickly becoming active and leading projects

5. Karlyn, Stacy, Jayme and Carly are putting together a Euchre tournament for June 1 to raise scholarship funds

6. Paula is chairing the drive to collect womens products. Circleville currently in 2nd place in the District for collection total

7. Daryl and Rob started a second date for Rotary food kitchen. 90+ meals served last week.

8. B. Stout chairing the Service Above Self selection committee with Ty and M. Lanman. Application deadline is April 10

5. Ian and D. Crawford are moving forward with new member orientation sessions

6 Ellery asked for board approval to remove the final two Rotary accounts held by US Bank. Motion passed.

7. Rural Urban Day was a great success. Approx. 40 Rotarians and approx. 50 guests in attendance. Cost to club was $1,800. Discussion took place as to how to manage the cost of future Rural/Urban days.

8. The 4-Way speech contest was very successful with a large field of applicants. Many thanks to Tony Robinson and his committee.

9. Ellery went over Rotary financials. Board approved.

10. The April 18 executive board meeting will be utilized to put final touches on leadership and committee assignments for the 2023-24 Rotary year. Drexel and Ellery also will review the different financial accounts for the new directors.

  • Soup Kitchen extra: last week we started our new rotation of the second Monday of every other month. Rob Radcliff thanked his wife Dodie, Daryl Wolfe, Warren Spangler, David and Marie Crawford. We are now seeing 90 meals being requested, so help from members is needed. We had a tour of the church’s kitchen supplies – they will accept monetary donations, as as well food items.
  • Rob is also next year’s Program Chair – we are looking for program chairs for April/May/June. If you would like to sign up, please see Rob.
  • Gary Montgomery: our fourth Monday Soup Kitchen is this coming Monday at 4:00pm. If you can make it, please let Gary know.
  • Joe McNemar: Have a meal at City BBQ on March 31st between 11am-8pm and tell them you are there for the Boy Scout Troop 52 fundraiser. Proceeds will help scouts attend Camp Falling Rock this summer.
  • “March Madness for Women” Last collection is next Thursday. We are in second place in our district! Help finish strong.
  • Tony Robinson: Nine students competed in last Saturday’s Four-Way speech contest. Sunrise Rotary co-sponsored the event. Thanks to Tom Duvall, Ellery Elick, Connie Chamberlain, Bill Kramer, Sr. Monica Justinger for working the event, Warren Spangler, Gary Dean, David & Marie Crawford for attending. Our two first prize winners will compete in the District contest at Columbus State, April 28th.

  • Megan worked for Pickaway Ross for 7 years and she started first ag program at Circleville High School. She won the 2022 Ohio Association of Agricultural Educators Early Career Teacher award.
  • Megan is joined today, in their official FFA uniforms, by CHS First FFA President, Sterlin Mullins; CHS First FFA Secretary, Allie Mullins; CHS First FFA Student Advisor, Lillianna Stafford; CHS First FFA Development Chair, Emma Groff
  • Supervised Agricultural Experience(SAE): Each student participates in activities (it’s not all farm based): Sterlin & Allie Mullins have turkey’s; “Ag for All” Podcast was created by Pickaway County Fair Queen Lillianna Stafford; Tutoring in schools is Emma Groff’s SAE.
  • Lab activities included harvesting strawberry DNA
  • Learning about the different components of Agriculture; woodworking, construction projects, Animal and Plant Science, Ag Business
  • Career Development Event – compete against other chapters . Livestock sales, Public Speaking, Dairy Quality, etc.

  • Tony Robinson: This Saturday is the Four Way Speech Contest – 11 students will be competing at the library on N. Court. Starts at 10am if you can make it to cheer the students on.

  • Joe McNemar: Have a meal at City BBQ on March 31st between 11am-8pm and tell them you are there for the Boy Scout Troop 52 fundraiser. Proceeds will help scouts attend Camp Falling Rock this summer.
  • Paula Routt : “March Madness for Women” We helped our district win the statewide contest this weekend at All Ohio PETS and are now competing against clubs in our district. Items being collected are deodorant, shampoo, soap, wipes, tampons, sanitary pads, incontinence products until March 30th. Monetary donations can be given to Paula/Angie/Marie and they will shop for you. If you would like to donate and cannot attend the meeting, please drop off items at the Crawford’s.

Program: New Hope Christian Academy Seniors introduced by Allison Catlos: Ella Hood, Maren McCallister, Effie Tsitroulis, Jenna Tripp

  • The students were Guardians on Honor Flight Mission 119, November 2022
  • The mission of Honor Flight is to honor America’s senior Veterans with a free trip to Washington D.C. to visit the nation’s memorials. To help them share their stories. To celebrate and affirm their service and homecoming.
  • Honor Flight is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization funded by charitable contributions
  • Guardians are encouraged to meet their veterans before the flight and go through a day of training to prepare. Maren’s veteran even comes to her basketball games and will be invited to her graduation party.
  • Monuments visited were emotional for the veterans
  • People wait for the veterans at the monuments to welcome them
  • Welcome home tunnel of people at the Columbus airport ends the day
  • Beth Johnson, Executive Director of Honor Flight Columbus, explains the Columbus HUB started in 2007. There are 129 hubs in 43 states. Those HUBs West of the Mississippi make it a 2-3 day trip.
  • America’s senior veterans 65 years and older are eligible for the trip. Honorflightcmh.org for more information and the application.
  • Guardians pay for their own way and volunteers are always welcomed – see the website to sign up
  • Circleville Rotary donated $250 to Honor Flight Columbus and Thank You notes for the next Mission

Program: Ana Dutra – Brazil Rotary Student Exchange

  • “One of my biggest dreams was to be part of an exchange program and my family has been so supportive”
  • Ana’s mother is a Rotarian in Brazil and Ana is involved in Interact and plans to be in Rotaract in college
  • 18 exchange students from Brazil are in 6 different countries currently
  • Brazil is the biggest country in South America with 27 states
  • Soccer is the most famous sport in Brazil
  • Economy in Brazil is agricultural along with steel and metal industries
  • Sao Paulo has 12.4 million residents
  • Rio: 6.78 million residents. Used to be coffee producers, but warmer now and that is not good for coffee beans
  • Tourism is large and getting bigger
  • Catholic Religion is the religion of the country
  • Carnival is the main festivity in Brazil “The Greatest Show on Earth”. Jennifer Jones was in Brazil for Carnival. Starts 44 days prior to Easter.
  • Only country to have 5 World Cup titles
  • Two of the service projects for her Interact club – 1. teaching people how to sew. Made masks for pandemic 2. Collect soda pull tabs and plastic bottles to turn in for wheelchairs donated to a local hospital
  • Brazil has mandatory English classes in school
  • Ana plans on journalism as a career and will go to OU for a campus visit in hopes of studying in the USA

Rural Urban Day: We had approximately 90 people in attendance, one of the largest crowds in the past several years. Rotary showed its appreciation to the agricultural community who keeps us food secure and provides stewardship of the land. We thank the Presbyterian Church congregational care team for our wonderful meal and table decorations.
