    • CHS – Coach Jada Truex was with us today. Circleville High School Girls Softball team had 8 members help out at the booth. Everyone who signed up showed up and Allie Mullins and Katelyn Folkes are here representing the team. This is the first time Circleville has a whole week off for Spring Break and the team is going to Florida for Spring Training. They will be in the Clearwater beach area practicing with two other teams (and having some fun on the beach.)
    • Circleville Rotary is donating $1,000 to expenses in appreciation for the team’s help in manning our booth.
    • $10,317 Profit – biggest revenue (yes, prices did increase a little)
  • Community Kitchen will be cancelled on Dec. 26th

Executive Board highlights

  • Board approved the finance report (report is always available for review by members by asking Dick or Drexel)
  • David proposed fundraising project to sell yard signs to members in the district for support of the club and Uganda orphanage project. No action taken.
  • In light of upcoming cost increases from Rotary International and District, David said club needs to be proactive with member recruitment and/or fund-raising.  
  • Tony C. attended the District 6690 awards event recently. He said it was a great event and energized his focus on introducing more people to Rotary.
  • Tony C., chair of the nominating committee, announced the committee (T. Chamberlain, I. Webb and McCrady) have selected Connie Chamberlain and Patty Rothe as board appointees and Rob Radcliff as vice-president. The board expressed appreciation for the committee’s work. Election is Dec. 15.
  • Ellery reported the Rural/Urban Day is tentatively set for Feb. 23. A location has not been determined.
  • Board approved a proposal for Noon Rotary to become the affiliate for local Boy Scout Troop 52.
  • Board approved a $12,500 contribution, payable over the next five years, toward the proposed Inspiration Station.
  • Board heard a report from Rob of the bylaws review committee (Poling, Radcliff, Rothe). Board approved sending the changes to the membership for a vote on Dec. 15. Changes consist of grammer and numerical corrections and minor clarifications. Bylaws have not been reviewed since 2014. Changes will be emailed to all members and discussed Dec. 1.
  • Board dinner set for Dec. 13.

Program: Brittany Kaiser – YMCA updates

  • Brittany is the aquatics director and her new role is YMCA MidEastern Regional Representative for Competitive Swimming.
  • Brittany is now overseeing four states of swim coaches (100 total) and their swim teams
  • High School swim teams are back in the water and all teams have increased their student participation. This has also increased the number of students on the YMCA swim team.
  • Teen Center – 6 month membership $75 fee. A lot of kids come after school and have lifeguards who are monitoring the room and are turning out to be role models. Games and homework help is available. Don McIlroy, Connie Chamberlain, Ty Ankrom, Mike Pelcic, Dan Fouts, Dick Gerhardt, Marie Nemes-Crawford all donated one membership each for students who need a sponsor.
  • Water volleyball back in the pool – come play
  • Community Center partners are still be recruited – redoing needs assessment before moving forward
  • Additional staff is needed at the Y if anyone is looking for work

  • 35,000 people employed by OhioHealth with over 2,400 volunteers
  • Berger numbers: 83,000 outpatient visits and 22,000 emergency visits in a year
  • 12 facilities owned by OhioHealth throughout Ohio currently
  • Charlie Hedges convinced Berger to follow the Leapfrog Hospital Survey years ago. It uses national performance measures to evaluate individual hospitals on safety, quality, and efficiency. Berger has consistency received an A rating.
  • OhioHealth is a non-profit entity
  • FY21 $6 million community care Berger contributed. Medicare/Medicaid does not cover all costs of care.
  • Berger ED visits up 30%
  • $2 million upgrade for robot surgeries
  • $8 million upgrade coming for operating rooms

  • 1920, Ted Lewis was highest paid entertainer in the country
  • Ted Lewis and his wife donated the land to the city for a park
  • 2015 City Council put together master plan for the park
  • $2.5 million loan, ADA playground and splash pad, restrooms
  • Brochures available, funding request to Rotary, individuals, and companies
  • Friends of Ted Lewis Park Mission: Rebuild Ted Lewis Park with the Vision, Access to Play For All
  • 25.3% last census poverty level in Circleville. 45% of children (under 18 yrs.) live in poverty in the city.
  • Goal is to raise $2million to complete the park by 2024
  • Would like to have three season shelter house like Starkey Pavillion, upgrade baseball lights, benches, bandshell, paving roads, security
  • Since Ted Lewis is in a flood plain, everything needs lifted (shelter house)
  • Savings Bank has given us $25,000
  • Donations are made through Pickaway County Community Foundation. Friends of Ted Lewis Park is a 501(3)c entity.
  • Shelter House – first Priority is large donation for naming right. $595,000 is current estimated cost.

  • Dan presented Rotarian Rick Rawlins with one of his agency’s first awards recognizing those who helped support the Marshal Service’s bomb dog program. Rawlins is a former official with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which provided the explosive-trained bomb dogs.
  • There are 94 judicial districts in the country, Ohio is split into 2
  • Dan is responsible for 48 southern counties
  • Dan’s agents can also be called on for Supreme Court protection detail
  • 1789 was the start of the Marshal service under George Washington

– 2016 he began as our director
– People do still read books – 5 books a year is the median number of books read a year per person
– Bookmobile still goes out
– Home delivery is an option for those who do not have ability to get to library
– 300,000 items in circulation during a year
– 60% in Circleville Branch; 15% outreach; 10% Ashville; 15% is audio and e-content
– Library associates are all active members of the community
– Library provided 200 programs in first 250 days of this year
– Over 5,000 people have attended programs so far this year
– Technology one-on-one available to community (need help understanding your computer, create a presentation, etc.)
– They also partner with Park District to have programs in the parks
– Imagination Library – 3,400 children in Pickaway county are eligible. -Over 2,000 are enrolled. One of the highest per capita
percentages in the state. Started about 4 years ago. Thank you to our Rotary club’s yearly contribution.
– Imagination Station will be part of the library building. Target date is 2024 opening
– Younkin Branch in Ashville will be closed for two weeks – drive-thru window being installed and changing the meeting room into
literacy space for children
– Fines are not charged in our library, but if something is overdue, you cannot get anything else
– When ordering material, the library is part of the Central Library Consortium which includes 17 libraries. We ship materials 5 days a
week. Also member of Search Ohio – public universities materials.
